Its me AND the dog
Here you can read a number of articles with good dog-advice, that have been brought in a couple of local newspapers on Amager in 2007. The articles addresses the owners of family dogs, who are not super focused on high level dog training such as agility, sports training and alike.
It all began, when I was slightly annoyed be the TV-show “Its me OR the dog” that was running in the US and UK again later in Denmark. I thought it was sad to see how many dogs that where living with their families and had completely taken control, because of their owners lack of understanding of their dogs needs… And yes I would call it laziness and ignorance from the owner. The lack of stimuli where the basically the main problem. My series of articles was therefore called “Its me AND the dog”, where I have written a bunch of little things that the owner can do, to get a better dog-life and a more happy dog without putting to big an effort into it.
• Physical exercise is not enough
Different activities, where the dog has to use its brain
Not jump up!
Many dogs jump up the persons that they meet – very friendly but also a tad annoying. Its not difficult to end this bad behavior.

• Make the walks challenging and fun..
It doesn’t take a lot to give our dogs some exiting experiences, just a little knowledge and fantasy.

• How to greet the dog.
When we greet the dogs we meet, we greet in human manner. Unfortunately dog language is practically the opposite of human language, so……

• Calling in…… ”come on god damn it”
Actually coming, when there are called.

• Home alone….. very ground breaking for dogs
For many dogs it can be terrible to be left alone. It has to be learned little by little – from the day the pup enters its new home.

• Nine out of ten dog owners are considerate.
(Who is number ten......?)
• Not to close
Dogs do also have a private zone that has to be respected.
• Does your dog beg at the table?
I'm sure you use the most effektive trainingmethode to keep the behavior!

• Be cool if trouble is lining up.
It is always an advantage to keep calm and maintain the overview – but it does require a little knowledge.
• Does everybody in the family agree to get a dog ?
Have you taken the time to find out what it takes to have a dog – and what can you offer a dog ?

• Puppies or not?
Your own dog is always fantastic, and that’s the way it has to be, but does it mean that it is fit to pas on its genes ? – Will its puppies benefit or even improve the race ??

• The old dog
- About life quality.

• Summer time is unfortunately also 'hotdog-time'!
Heat wave, sun and summer is great, but think about your dog. Its your responsibility, that it doesn’t get a heatstroke die pf thirst etc.

• The first snow
- Protect your dog when its winter weather.
